The Israeli Defense Ministry has finalized an agreement with the Jerusalem municipality to create a new defense headquarters in the capital and transfer the military’s academic colleges there, along with several related developments.
According to a report by The Times of Israel on December 15, 2025, Defense Minister Israel Katz, Defense Ministry Director General Amir Baram, Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, and Jerusalem Municipality Director General Ariela Rejwan signed the agreement.
The plan includes constructing a dedicated defense establishment facility at the Jerusalem city entrance complex.
This new branch will house offices for both the Defense Ministry and the Israel Defense Forces, in addition to a specialized research and development center.
A modern IDF museum will also be developed near the Mandel Institute within the city.
The existing army induction center in Jerusalem will receive significant upgrades to meet present and future operational requirements.
Simultaneously, the Defense Ministry and the municipality will identify and prepare a suitable location for an entirely new induction center to eventually replace the current facility.
The military’s colleges, presently situated at the Glilot base near Herzliya, will relocate to Jerusalem.
The chosen site will feature excellent accessibility and strong connections to various public transportation options.
These colleges will accommodate hundreds of officers and staff members while contributing positively to the vitality and development of nearby neighborhoods.
Furthermore, the Jerusalem municipality will collaborate with the IDF Personnel Directorate’s Housing Administration to promote and advance dedicated housing initiatives for career officers serving in the Israel Defense Forces within the city.
This comprehensive agreement shows a strategic effort to strengthen Jerusalem’s status as the national capital by integrating key defense institutions and infrastructure.
