Political and Public Affairs Analyst, Barrister Darlington Agomuo has offered new insight into the intensity and complexity surrounding the legal battles of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking during an interview on Voice of the People TV, Agomuo highlighted the emotional weight carried by senior lawyers who have handled Kanu’s case, pointing specifically to renowned constitutional lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome.
Agomuo recalled how Ozekhome, who once led Kanu’s legal team, was visibly overwhelmed by the gravity of the case and the circumstances surrounding the separatist leader’s detention. “When Mike Ozekhome, the professor of law himself, handled that case, in fact after that case, the man had to kneel down and thank God for the mercy He has done,” he said, suggesting that the legal battle had taken a significant emotional and psychological toll on the senior lawyer.
The analyst noted that Ozekhome’s reaction underscored the seriousness of the constitutional and human rights issues embedded in Kanu’s prolonged detention. According to Agomuo, the case has consistently placed immense pressure on legal practitioners, activists, and political leaders who believe that the matter demands a fair and decisive resolution.
Agomuo further argued that the complexities of Kanu’s legal journey reflect deeper systemic challenges within Nigeria’s justice system. He stressed that the prolonged nature of the case continues to raise concerns over due process, equitable treatment, and the broader implications for national unity.
The public affairs analyst called on the government to approach the case with renewed urgency, emphasizing that many Nigerians see Kanu’s continued incarceration as emblematic of wider political grievances.
