Kanu: He Was Chained By Legs And Hands For Seven Days, With A Bug Generator Kept Near His Window-Opara

In a recent video shared on Symfoni TV, human rights lawyer Maxwell Opara gave a chilling account of what he described as the brutal treatment Nnamdi Kanu faced before being brought back to Nigeria.

Opara revealed that “he was chained by legs and hands for seven days, with a big generator kept near his window”, a statement that underscores the severity of the conditions Kanu allegedly endured while in Kenya. According to him, the deliberate positioning of the generator created unbearable noise and psychological distress, compounding the physical pain caused by the restraints.

He explained that such an ordeal leaves long-term physical and emotional damage, noting that no human being—regardless of the accusations against them—should be subjected to that kind of torture. Opara added that even after Kanu was returned to Nigeria, the hardship did not end. He claimed that Kanu was placed in prolonged solitary confinement by the DSS, a situation he described as mentally destructive and capable of breaking the spirit of even the strongest person.

The lawyer criticized what he called a troubling pattern of human rights violations within the system. He stressed that humane treatment is a fundamental right guaranteed by law, and any deviation from it weakens the moral standing of the nation.

Opara also expressed concern about political interference in judicial matters. According to him, the judiciary must remain independent and should not allow political actors to dictate outcomes, warning that judgments made under pressure tarnish the legacy of respected judges.

As the country anticipates the upcoming court judgment, Opara urged authorities to prioritize fairness, integrity, and justice, insisting that the rule of law must guide every decision in the ongoing case.
