The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has unequivocally denied reports of an assassination attempt on Naval Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, calling the stories “false information” and warning the public against panic. SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, dismissed circulating claims as entirely unverified, stating that “no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.”
The rumour stemmed from recent media and social media posts alleging that Lt. Yerima was trailed by unidentified men dressed in black, driving two unmarked Hilux vans from the NIPCO filling station on Kubwa Expressway to Gado-Nasco Road. Reports said he performed daring escape manoeuvres during a possible high-speed pursuit.
In its official response, the FCT Police urged citizens to “disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.” The command also encouraged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police division via its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.
While the police firmly deny any assassination attempt, sources from the military indicate that the alleged trailing is being investigated.
