According to report by Daily Post on Friday, November 14, 2025, Former ADC presidential candidate and political commentator Dumebi Kachikwu has criticized the intense public criticism directed at Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike following his recent confrontation with naval officer Lt. Ahmed Yerima, Daily Post reports.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Kachikwu argued that the controversy reflects a growing tendency in Nigeria to excuse unlawful actions when aimed at unpopular figures. He described the outrage against Wike as orchestrated by a vocal minority determined to portray him as a villain, irrespective of the facts.
“Commenting on this saga between Wike and Yerima is difficult because it highlights how a very vocal minority dominates public discourse and pressures others into silence,” Kachikwu said. He added that their reaction was not rooted in legality or due process, but in personal animosity, noting, “They have let their hatred for this man, who is perceived as a bully and the President’s bulldog, cloud their judgment.”
Kachikwu expressed concern over the direction of national conversation, warning that resentment is increasingly shaping public opinion. He called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, suggesting that certain top officials, including the Minister of Defence, may have “taken sides” without considering the full context.
The incident in question occurred when Wike and FCT officials tried to access land but were blocked by armed soldiers, leading to a viral confrontation that captured nationwide attention.
Kachikwu concluded by urging Nigerians to respond with calm, restraint, and objectivity, emphasizing that allowing emotions and biases to dominate could undermine fairness, truth, and proper judgment in public discourse.
