Wike-Naval Clash: Wike Is The Governor Of FCT, That’s The Position He’s Occupying -Prof. Nnah Reacts

Academic and public affairs analyst, Professor Simon Nnah, has strongly criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his confrontation with a naval officer during an enforcement operation in Abuja. Speaking on News Central TV on Friday, November 14, 2025, he called the minister’s conduct an embarrassment to public office and insisted that a national apology is owed to the soldier involved.

Professor Nnah, also known as Professor Simeon Nnah, said: “He’s the governor of FCT, if you like, because that’s the position he’s occupying.” He explained that while he had listened to views from legal and military professionals, his stance remained firm: “My opinion, which I stand by any time, any day, is that what Wike did was an embarrassment. And I’ll say it from this point of view.”

He questioned whether due process was followed in the land enforcement that led to the altercation: “I know that there’s a tribunal that is in charge of land cases in Abuja… Question number one, did Wiks go to that tribunal to get judgment? Question number two, if he got judgment, is he the law enforcement agent that would go there to enforce the law?” Professor Nnah highlighted that the naval officer had claimed compliance with earlier procedures: “The soldier even said they showed the documents to the people that came earlier. And again, you see, the soldier was acting on instruction.”

Drawing from historical precedents, he recalled past disciplinary actions within the military: “Recall the time… the National Security Advisor of Jonathan… the way he was punished… because… he was under order by IBB not to release him… and because of that, the guy was punished for obeying the last order, Dasuki, for obeying the last order.” He stressed that military obedience must be understood in context: “In the military, you have to obey the last order… If you are asked to go and kill your wife… no, it’s a different ballgame here… the order they gave him was not… something that is out of place.”

Professor Nnah argued that Wike should not have personally intervened: “Let him tell us that he had an order from that tribunal… Even at that, you should have sent security men to go there… Not as a minister.” He referenced comments from defence authorities: “Even the minister of defense said you should have contacted him… I even learnt he called the CDS… He called the naval chief… and that’s what asked him to wait… that there’s an investigation going on… Let them finish the investigation.”
