I Read What One Former COAS Wrote, He Cannot Tell Me Of Decency And He Can’t Teach Me–Wike

According to a report by The Nation on Thursday, November 13, 2025, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike on Thursday expressed disappointment over what he described as the misinterpretation of the incident that occurred last Tuesday involving Naval officers led by Lt. A.M. Yerima.

Wike said the event, which took place in Gaduwa District of Abuja, was wrongly portrayed and that the parties involved were acting outside legal boundaries.

Wike questioned the statement made by former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), that his action posed a threat to national security and undermined the authority of President Bola Tinubu.

The Minister said such comments were misplaced and not based on the facts surrounding the incident.

The Minister, who spoke to reporters at his official residence in Life Camp, said Buratai had no authority to demand an apology from him to Lt. Yerima.

He described the call for an apology as inappropriate and insisted that he could not be lectured on decency by someone he accused of past misconduct during his tenure in the army.

Wike also criticized Lt. Yerima for his role in the altercation, which arose from a disputed parcel of land previously owned by former Naval Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.

The FCT Administration has maintained that the land transaction was illegal and any actions taken to enforce claims on it were invalid.

He accused the naval officer of following illegal instructions and acting in violation of the rule of law.

Wike emphasized that officials are expected to operate within legal frameworks and that compliance with unlawful orders would not be tolerated by his administration.

The Minister further reiterated his stance that attempts to politicize the incident were unfounded.

He maintained that the confrontation was a matter of enforcing proper legal authority and ensuring that all land matters within the FCT comply with existing regulations.

Wike concluded by rejecting calls for apology and insisting on adherence to the law.

He stated that any attempt to misrepresent the situation was misleading and that his administration would continue to uphold legal standards in all matters involving public land in the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike said: “I read what one former Chief of Army Staff wrote. He cannot tell me of decency and he can’t teach me. This was the same man who (allegedly) directed his GOC to rig election, my election in 2019. He couldn’t rig me. He lost.
