Many were left stunned after the former governor of Anambra State and erstwhile Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi after several weeks of campaigning for his choice candidate, George Muoghalu lost his own polling unit to Nicholas Ukachukwu, the APC candidate.

The gubernatorial elections, which was held across the state on Saturday November 8th 2025, witnessed surprise twists, as many candidates, including the incumbent governor and APGA candidate, Charles Soludo were given early scares.

However, the lost suffered by the former Anambra governor, Peter Obi at his own polling unit caught center stage, drawing mixed reactions from different quarters, including from Bayo Onanuga, the senior special adviser on Information and Strategy.

According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that the pontificator (referring to Peter Obi) and his choice candidate, George Muoghalu were beaten by an APC candidate in his own backyard.

The statements from Bayo Onanuga sent a cryptic message across. However, while the final results were yet to be made to be made public, the defeat suffered by the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate indicated that his popularity was questionable, as pointed out by Bayo Onanuga.
