According to a report by Daily Post, a United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has accused former Kano State Governor and NNPP chieftain, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of being complicit in the killings of Christians in Nigeria.
The lawmaker made the statement while responding to Kwankwaso’s claims that Nigeria was being unfairly classified by the U.S. as a nation that persecutes Christians.
Moore insisted that such assertion cannot be ignored because, according to him, Christian communities in Nigeria have come under constant attack for years.
Moore specifically referenced the period Kwankwaso administered Kano State and the enforcement of Sharia law. He alleged that the former governor played a role in shaping policies that allegedly encouraged religious extremism.
According to Moore, once a government makes blasphemy punishable by death, it indirectly creates an environment where Christians become targets of violence.
He questioned Kwankwaso’s moral standing to speak on Christian persecution when he allegedly contributed to a legal framework that endangers religious freedom.
Kwankwaso in his earlier remarks had condemned threats of military intervention by the U.S., stressing that insecurity in Nigeria does not target one religion alone.
He insisted that both Muslims and Christians are victims of banditry, terrorism and other forms of violence.
But Moore fired back, saying Kwankwaso must first explain his own role before criticizing the U.S.
He stated that anyone who implemented laws that encourage religious intolerance must be ready to answer questions rather than act innocent.
The accusation has now stirred political tension, especially because it comes when Nigeria is facing deeper scrutiny from Washington over religious freedom and terror-linked insecurity.
Christian groups in Nigeria have repeatedly called for more international attention, while Muslim leaders argue that the issue is being exaggerated to create division.
