In an interview on Trust TV, Professor Sadeeque Abba, a renowned scholar of International Relations at the University of Abuja, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a historic shift in Nigeria’s foreign policy posture.
According to him, Tinubu’s approach represents a decisive move away from the traditional dependence on Western nations and signals a new era of strategic independence for Africa’s largest democracy.
Professor Abba noted that Nigeria’s current foreign policy stance under President Tinubu demonstrates a growing sense of national confidence.
“The third reason which is very fundamental is that for the first time in so long since Abacha Tinubu was the first president in this country to look away from the western world. In fact France is the only friend Tinubu had and Nigeria is not dependent on France. It is France and Emmanuel Macron that is depending on Tinubu and Nigeria now. If you are a follower of international politics the French are having a lot of problems in the West African that’s why they are looking at Tinubu as a way out,” he said.
Professor Abba emphasized that Tinubu’s strategy has altered the balance of relations between Nigeria and its Western partners, especially France.
He pointed out that the ongoing political and economic tensions in West Africa have made Nigeria a key player in regional stability, giving Tinubu an upper hand in diplomatic engagements.
