Abiola Told Me He Has ManyWives And His Children CanBe Unruly So He Devolved His House In 4-Agbakoba

According to an interview with Business Day on Sunday, October 26, 2025, Olisa Agbakoba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has shared a revealing conversation he had with the late business mogul and presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, about how he managed his large polygamous household.

Agbakoba recalled that Abiola used his family structure as an analogy for governance and administrative efficiency. The late politician explained to him that managing multiple wives and their children required a decentralized approach to avoid constant conflict and maintain harmony.

According to Agbakoba, Abiola told him: “You know, I have many wives. And the wives I have, have children. And children can be unruly because they may want different types of food on the same day. Some may want rice; some may want soup.”

The SAN said Abiola went on to explain his solution to the domestic challenge. “So, what I did was I devolved my household into at least four majors, because you always had four major wives. From Simbiat to Kudirat, four.”

Agbakoba noted that Abiola’s strategy was built on the principle of decentralization. The late businessman avoided the chaos that would come from trying to control every detail of his household from a single point.
