Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to former Rivers State governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has accused Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist Chidi Odinkalu of supporting LGBTQ causes.
In a post shared on his official X handle, Olayinka questioned Odinkalu’s brand of human rights advocacy, alleging that he has consistently promoted homosexuality over the years.
He further claimed that Odinkalu’s partner, Iheoma Obibi, runs an online sex toy business, and linked his association with the Open Society Justice Initiative, an organization funded by billionaire philanthropist George Soros to what he described as an “LGBTQ agenda.”
Olayinka recalled that former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Odinkalu as Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission but alleged that Odinkalu later turned against Jonathan by aligning with groups promoting same-sex rights.
According to him, Odinkalu’s criticism of Nigeria’s 2013 anti-gay law was what eventually earned him a position as Senior Team Manager for the Africa Program at the Open Society Justice Initiative, which Olayinka described as one of the world’s top funders of LGBTQ advocacy.
He further suggested that Odinkalu’s opposition to Jonathan’s refusal to legalize same-sex marriage was politically motivated. Olayinka’s remarks came shortly after Odinkalu publicly criticized Wike, leading many observers to interpret the post as politically charged rather than a genuine moral concern.
