According to a video shared on Facebook on Sunday, September 6, 2026, Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church Worldwide has offered his assessment of the possible 2027 presidential contest, particularly the chances of Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar defeating President Bola Tinubu.
Ayodele suggested that although either opposition politician could potentially emerge victorious at the polls, defeating Tinubu would not necessarily mark the end of the political battle. He argued that the President’s political experience, preparation and established structures could create significant challenges for any opposition candidate who succeeds him at the polls.
“If either Obi or Atiku wins, Tinubu will completely submerge them because he is ready,” the cleric stated.
According to Ayodele, Tinubu should not be underestimated because of his extensive experience in Nigerian politics and the networks supporting his political ambitions. He maintained that the President and his allies are likely to approach the 2027 election with considerable preparation and organisation.
The cleric also suggested that opposition candidates would require more than widespread voter support to overcome the political machinery available to the ruling establishment. He argued that defeating an incumbent with substantial political experience would require carefully coordinated strategies, effective mobilisation and a well-organised campaign.
Ayodele’s remarks come as political activity surrounding the 2027 presidential election continues to intensify. Several opposition figures and political groups are positioning themselves for the contest, while parties are working to strengthen their structures and attract support across the country.
Atiku Abubakar, who is associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Peter Obi are among the prominent opposition figures expected to play significant roles in the emerging political contest.
The cleric urged opposition politicians to avoid complacency and instead focus on developing stronger electoral strategies. He indicated that assuming victory before the votes are cast could prove costly, particularly against a politically experienced incumbent who is preparing for a competitive election.
Ayodele ultimately portrayed the 2027 contest as a difficult challenge for the opposition. While acknowledging that either Obi or Atiku could potentially defeat Tinubu at the ballot box, he warned that the President’s political preparedness and experience would remain significant factors in the broader struggle for political influence.
