Onaiyekan: During Pope’s Inauguration, To Show Respect For Catholic Church, Tinubu Arrived Early-Obi

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi has taken to his official X account on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 to state that during the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV in Rome, President Tinubu displayed deep respect for the church.

The presidential candidate of NDC made the statement after Cardinal John Onaiyekan was criticized for speaking about the economy of Nigeria.

In the statement that Peter Obi shared on his official X account, he said Cardinal John Onaiyekan should not have been criticized for speaking the truth. He said during the inauguration of the Pope in Rome, Tinubu queued with other world leaders to greet him but today, the posture has changed completely in Nigeria.

The presidential candidate of NDC stated that whenever religious leaders speak about an issue in the country, a good leader must listen and provide solution.
