I Think It’s Worrying That Peter Obi Is Being Subjected To Such A High Level Of Harassment-Ibrahim

According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of SYMFONI TV on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Professor of Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Jibrin Ibrahim, expressed concern over reports alleging that NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is facing increasing pressure from the government.

Speaking during the interview, Ibrahim said he had only recently become aware of the allegations but described the situation as disturbing if the claims were accurate. He stated, “I think it’s worrying that Peter Obi is being subjected to such a high level of harassment.”

The professor argued that any attempt to intimidate or weaken opposition figures could have serious implications for Nigeria’s democratic system. He stressed that democracy thrives when opposition parties are allowed to operate freely, express their views, and compete fairly without fear of intimidation or undue interference.

Ibrahim further warned that if democratic institutions are weakened, the consequences would extend beyond political parties and affect the entire country. According to him, protecting the rights of opposition leaders is essential to preserving political stability, public confidence, and democratic governance.

He added that Nigerians should remain committed to defending democratic values and ensuring that every political actor is treated fairly under the law.
