A joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) has secured the release of all pupils and teachers abducted during coordinated attacks on schools in Oyo State on May 15, 2026.

Security sources disclosed that nine suspected kidnappers were killed during the rescue operation, which ended nearly two months of captivity for the victims.

The sources said the operation was carried out in the early hours of Friday after security agencies acted on intelligence provided by the DSS, leading operatives to the kidnappers’ hideout.

Following their rescue, the pupils and teachers were being transported to Ibadan, where they are expected to meet with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The victims were among 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted when armed men, reportedly linked to a Boko Haram faction, launched coordinated attacks on three schools in the Yawota and Ahoro-Esiele communities of Oriire Local Government Area.

The abduction claimed the life of a mathematics teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, Michael Oyedokun, who was later beheaded by the kidnappers while in captivity.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the rescue operation as of the time of filing this report, while further details are expected…See More
