The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing serious problems after a long leadership struggle that started after the 2023 general election.
According to Daily Post, this once-powerful party is now struggling because of people leaving, ongoing conflicts, and a decline in public trust.
At the same time, President Bola Tinubu seems to have successfully broken down the political barriers in Nigeria’s southeastern and southern regions.
The latest setback for the PDP occurred when Enugu State Governor, Barr Peter Mbah, officially left the PDP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mbah announced his decision during a broadcast to the state, explaining that he made this move to better connect the southeastern state with the central government.
On the other hand, some people within the party refuse to believe that the departure of sitting governors marks the end of the PDP’s influence in the region.
Former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ray Nnaji, criticized Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a serious political blunder.
In an interview with DAILY POST on Tuesday, Nnaji acknowledged that Mbah had the constitutional right to change parties but maintained that the decision would eventually have negative consequences.
He explained that while the Constitution did not expressly prohibit a governor from defecting, it only provided for the removal of lawmakers if their seats were challenged in court after switching parties.
Nnaji further alleged that the crowd that received Mbah into the APC was hired and did not represent genuine grassroots support.
“I must tell you that the governor succeeded in renting a crowd. The people that came there were hired. The governor is not on ground. He is more interested in the elites and his financial base than in the common people,” he said.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
