Residents of a busy Lagos residential area were left stunned on Tuesday after a woman described locally as a high-end commercial sex worker, popularly called an “olosho,” was allegedly caught with cash and mobile phones belonging to a client.
According to eyewitness accounts, the client noticed that a large sum of money and two smartphones were missing shortly after the woman left his apartment earlier in the day. Suspicious of her movements, he reportedly contacted friends and neighbors who helped trace her whereabouts in the community.
Sources at the scene claim that after confronting the woman, some of the missing items were allegedly found in her possession. News of the confrontation spread quickly, and a crowd gathered within minutes.
Videos circulating on social media show the woman being publicly humiliated and paraded through nearby streets while onlookers shouted accusations. The footage has sparked widespread debate online, with many reacting to both the theft allegation and the public treatment of the suspect.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Kunle said tension rose fast. “People were angry because they believed she stole from the man. Before anyone could stop them, the crowd had already taken matters into their own hands,” he said.
Another resident described the scene as chaotic. “Several people tried to intervene, but others were encouraging the parade. It was very tense,” the resident said.
The woman was seen pleading with the crowd and denying some of the allegations, but the mob reportedly refused to listen as more passersby stopped to watch.
The incident has reignited conversations about mob justice and public humiliation in Nigeria. While many online users condemned the alleged theft, others argued that no suspect should be subjected to public shaming or violence without a police investigation.
Legal experts have consistently warned that jungle justice is illegal. Under Nigerian law, taking the law into one’s own hands is a criminal offense and can lead to arrest, prosecution, and civil liability for those involved, even if the original allegation is true.
