Khamenei: His Own Family Was Killed in Those Strikes, and He Never Even Mentioned It- Roule

According to a video posted on Al Arabiya, on Saturday June 20, 2026, Norman Roule, the former National Intelligence Manager for Iran at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said that Iran’s Supreme Leader’s own family was killed in those strikes, and he never even mentioned it in his statement.

Roule raised this point while analyzing the Supreme Leader’s public announcement endorsing the new agreement with the United States.

Speaking with Al Arabiya, Roule said this detail was significant because it showed restraint at a moment when emotional or personal grievances could easily have shaped the tone of the announcement.

He explained that the absence of any reference to this loss in the Supreme Leader’s statement said as much as any words he did choose to include.

In his words, Norman Roule said, “It’s notable that he did this. Remember his father, his family was killed in those attacks and he made no mention of this in his statement,” he said.

Roule explained that this omission, paired with the Supreme Leader’s decision to sign the agreement despite his own reservations, pointed to a leadership under real strain.

He linked this to broader comments he made about Iran’s economic condition, noting that the pressure facing the country appeared severe enough to outweigh personal and political objections.

Roule made these remarks during a wider conversation with Al Arabiya covering the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire in Lebanon, the postponed Geneva talks, and the 60-day window now set for broader negotiations between the United States and Iran.
