175 Convicts: Atiku’s Aide Reacts To 1990 Report Saying Drug Barons May Determine Nigeria’s Future

Paul Ibe, the Special Adviser on Media to the former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Waziri Atiku Abubakar has reacted to a report about drug barons in Nigeria.

Paul Ibe’s statement was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on Monday, October 13, 2025.

This is coming after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pardoned some convicts. According to VANGUARD, the President granted pardons to no fewer than 175 people who committed various crimes.

In the report that was made in 1990 by Newbreed, it was stated that drug barons may determine the political future of Nigeria.

However, Paul Ibe has now shared his thoughts after the report resurfaced online. In a post that he shared on his official X handle, he asked if the statement was a prophesy foretold.

He made the statement as report shows that 29.2% of the people released by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were drug offenders.

Here is what Paul Ibe wrote on his official X handle;
