According to a report by Arise News, on Tuesday May 27, 2026, In a striking political revelation, Dr. Umar Ardo, a former political strategist, has confessed that his prolonged stay within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was a calculated internal sabotage campaign designed to bring down the party from within ahead of the historic 2015 general elections.
Ardo further disclosed that despite orchestrating the foundational blueprints that led to the opposition coalition’s landmark victory in 2015, he never officially registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on his controversial role in the 2015 power shift during an interview, Ardo laid bare the mechanics of his political maneuvering and the subsequent fallout.
“I remained in the PDP to make sure the party went out, so I was never an APC member, and immediately after Buhari became president he shut me out, which led to me remaining in the PDP,” Ardo stated.
The politician explained that his decision to stay behind enemy lines as a mole was intentionally designed to destabilize the PDP and facilitate a smooth exit for the then-ruling party.
However, his high expectations of political reward, recognition, or inclusion in the nascent APC-led government were completely shattered.
According to Ardo, the newly elected President Muhammadu Buhari cut off all communication with him immediately after taking the oath of office, leaving the strategist out in the cold.
This unexpected betrayal upended Ardo’s calculations, forcing him to navigate his political future back within the opposition ranks for several more years.
Being sidelined by the very administration he helped conceptualize left him with no choice but to rebuild his political structure outside the ruling party. This prolonged friction eventually led to his official exit from the PDP much later, in 2022.
Reflecting on the experience, Ardo expressed deep dissatisfaction with how early contributors and architects of the 2015 political alliance were systematically discarded once power was secured.
He emphasized that these internal betrayals fractured the initial unity of the coalition. According to the strategist, the disintegration of that original bond serves as a bitter, cautionary lesson for current opposition groups attempting to build major political alliances ahead of future national elections….See More
