JUST IN: Sowore Wins At AAC Primary, Emerges Party’s 2027 Presidential Candidate

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore has been declared the 2027 presidential flag bearer of the African Action Congress, AAC, after winning the party’s primary held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in Abuja.

Sowore emerged as the party’s candidate after receiving unanimous endorsement from delegates and party leaders present at the event. The declaration was made during the AAC’s presidential primaries, which drew members and delegates from across the country to the Federal Capital Territory.

Following his emergence, Sowore was presented with the party’s flag in celebration of his victory. He also formally handed over his position as national chairman of the party to Samuel Ajeyigbe, the AAC Deputy National Chairman (Administration).

Speaking after accepting the nomination, Sowore said the AAC was founded to build a new Nigeria and thanked delegates for their sacrifice and belief in the party’s vision. He reiterated that the party remains focused on confronting corruption, bad governance, insecurity, and economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.

The activist described the AAC as “the only registered socialist party in Nigeria” and “the only genuine opposition” capable of confronting what he called the “criminal conspiracy” masquerading as democracy. He said the party was not interested in joining Nigeria’s political establishment but in dismantling it.

Sowore’s arrival at the venue was greeted with loud cheers from delegates and supporters, many of whom praised his leadership qualities and long-standing activism on governance, accountability, and social justice.

This will be Sowore’s third attempt at the presidency under the AAC platform, having contested in 2019 and 2023. Ahead of the primaries, he had told Channels Television’s _Politics Today_ that he was “running to win” and that the party would decide its candidates.
