The Governors Are Already Budgeting ₦800 Billion To Support The Campaign–Kenneth Okonkwo

According to a report by Daily Trust on Friday, May 22, 2026, Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and member of its National Working Committee, has strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the country’s economic and security situation.

Speaking during an appearance on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television, Okonkwo expressed concern about the living conditions of many Nigerians nearly three years after the current administration assumed office.

According to him, rising economic hardship, insecurity, and increasing public debt have continued to place pressure on citizens while falling short of public expectations.

During the interview, Okonkwo questioned the implementation of campaign promises made by the administration, arguing that several commitments aimed at improving economic stability and social welfare had not been fully realised.

He also criticised the government’s approach to economic evaluation, stating that too much attention was being placed on broad indicators such as gross domestic product without adequately reflecting actual productivity in the economy.

Okonkwo further described the business environment as difficult for many operators in the private sector. According to him, inflation, currency instability, and declining purchasing power have weakened investment confidence across the country.

He stated that businesses with stronger access to foreign exchange currently have a greater chance of surviving the harsh economic climate.

The ADC chieftain also warned that an economy that does not rely heavily on domestic production could become more vulnerable to fiscal imbalance and external economic pressure.

Speaking on preparations ahead of the 2027 elections, Okonkwo alleged that political structures were already mobilising financial resources to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
