We Assassinated Izz Al Din Al Haddad,” Israel Declares Amid Intensifying Gaza Conflict

According to Al Jazeera, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz have announced that Israeli forces killed senior Hamas commander Izz al-Din al-Haddad during a military operation in the Gaza Strip.

In a joint statement issued by the Israeli government and circulated through local media outlets, Israeli officials identified al-Haddad as the commander of Hamas’s armed wing in Gaza. The statement described him as a major target within Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Hamas leadership and infrastructure across the territory.

“We assassinated Izz al-Din al-Haddad, commander of Hamas’ armed wing in the Gaza Strip,” the statement said.

Israeli authorities further alleged that al-Haddad played a significant role in planning the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel, which led to the current war in Gaza and intensified instability across the Middle East. According to Israeli officials, the operation formed part of broader efforts aimed at weakening Hamas’s military capabilities and leadership structure.

The statement also claimed that al-Haddad had refused to support or implement a proposal reportedly backed by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning the disarmament of Hamas.

There was no immediate response from Hamas regarding the Israeli announcement or the reported killing of the commander. The absence of confirmation from the group has left some uncertainty surrounding the claim, although Israeli officials maintained that the operation was successful.

The development comes as military operations continue across Gaza amid increasing international concern over civilian casualties, humanitarian conditions and the possibility of further regional escalation. Diplomatic efforts involving international and regional actors have continued in attempts to secure ceasefire agreements and reduce tensions linked to the prolonged conflict.
