“This Madness Must Stop, Arise TV And Its Anchor, Rufai Have Crossed Too Many Lines- Segun Showunmi

Segun Showunmi, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reacted to the recent interview between Nigerian broadcaster Rufai Oseni and the Minister of Works, David Umahi. The interview, which aired on Arise TV’s “Morning Show,” has continued to stir discussions among Nigerians both online and offline.

According to a report by DAILY POST, the minister expressed visible displeasure during the interview after Rufai Oseni posed a series of probing questions related to ongoing infrastructural projects and expenditures under the Ministry of Works.

Segun Showunmi criticized the conduct of the presenter, stating that Rufai Oseni did not act in a professional capacity throughout the interview.

Showunmi expressed his disappointment over what he described as the erosion of journalistic boundaries during the live broadcast.

The PDP stalwart argued that media freedom should not translate to personal attacks or disrespectful exchanges, stressing the need for professionalism in public engagements.

According to him, the principles guiding freedom of expression must not be mistaken for a license to insult or demean individuals, regardless of their political affiliations or public offices.

Through a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Segun Showunmi wrote, “Freedom of expression is not freedom to abuse. Regulation is not repression, it is the defence of sanity and national interest. The time has come to draw the line.”
