According to a video shared by Symfoni Tv, on Monday May 4, 2026, former vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba Ahmed has expressed doubts about the political strength of a potential alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

Speaking in a video shared by SYMFONI TV, Ahmed reflected on the dynamics of the 2023 general election, noting that a collaboration between Obi and Kwankwaso was appealing at the time, especially to younger voters seeking a break from traditional political structures. He explained that the appeal was largely driven by a desire for new leadership and alternative ideas.

However, Ahmed pointed out that the political landscape has since evolved, making such a partnership more complex. He highlighted Kwankwaso’s strong political influence in Kano State, where he commands a significant and loyal support base. According to Ahmed, convincing these supporters to accept Kwankwaso in a vice-presidential role could prove challenging, given his long-standing ambition to lead the country.

He further explained that Nigerian political arrangements often follow informal conventions, including considerations such as regional balance, experience, and political stature. Ahmed suggested that these elements contributed to the relative acceptance of the Obi–Ahmed ticket during the 2023 elections.

In addition, Ahmed raised concerns about future political ambitions potentially affecting any alliance. He noted that discussions about succession, particularly regarding the 2031 presidential race, could create uncertainties and tensions within such a partnership.
