Peter Obi Reacts As Onanuga Explains Why Tinubu Didn’t Drive Into Jos Town To See Victims Of Attacks

Former Anambra State governor Peter Gregory Obi has responded to remarks made by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, regarding why the President did not travel into Jos to meet victims of recent attacks.

Obi shared his reaction in a post on his official X account on Friday, April 3, 2026. His comments followed Onanuga’s explanation that logistical difficulties prevented the President from entering the city.

According to Onanuga, time and security constraints made it impractical for Tinubu to drive into Jos, engage directly with victims, and return to the airport before nightfall. As a result, officials arranged for representatives of the affected communities to meet the President at a venue close to the airport.

In response, Obi criticized the approach, arguing that it fell short of what is expected in moments of national grief. In his statement, he emphasized that genuine leadership involves showing empathy and being physically present with those affected.
