Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Germany, has voiced strong criticism of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following recent developments affecting the party’s leadership status.
Reacting via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Fani-Kayode addressed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition from the party’s leadership. The move has generated significant public discussion, with opinions sharply divided across political and social spaces.
Some commentators have suggested that the decision may carry political undertones, particularly in light of the attention the ADC recently gained after the reported defection of Rabiu Kwankwaso. However, Fani-Kayode dismissed such claims and offered a different perspective on the situation.
According to him, the combined effect of losing recognition from both the courts and INEC has dealt a serious blow to the party’s operational capacity. He argued that the ADC is now structurally weakened and may struggle to function as a credible platform in future elections, especially as the 2027 presidential race approaches.
Fani-Kayode further stated that the party’s leadership should focus less on external critics, including himself and Reno Omokri, and more on resolving its internal challenges. He maintained that the ADC’s current condition reflects a broader decline in its relevance and public support.
In his words: “Having been stripped of recognition by the courts and INEC, the ADC no longer has a functional platform to contest elections. They now have bigger concerns than myself and Reno Omokri.”
He concluded that unless urgent steps are taken to rebuild credibility and internal cohesion, the party risks further diminishing its role in Nigeria’s political landscape….See More
