Reactions As Tinubu Postpones Trip To Ogun, Heads To Jos To Commiserate With Victims Of Deadly Attacks

Reactions have continued to trail the decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to postpone his scheduled visit to Ogun State and instead travel to Jos, Plateau State, to commiserate with victims of recent deadly attacks.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday.

According to the State House press release, Tinubu had initially planned to visit Iperu in Ogun State to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport. However, the President adjusted his itinerary to first visit Jos, the Plateau State capital, in response to recent gun attacks that claimed the lives of several innocent citizens.

The President is expected to meet with the Plateau State government and sympathize with affected families, a move that has drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some commending the gesture as timely and compassionate, while others called for stronger security measures to prevent recurring violence.

Following his visit to Plateau, Tinubu will proceed to Lagos to observe the Good Friday.

The statement further outlined the President’s schedule for a four-state visit. On Saturday, April 4, he will travel to Ogun State for the commissioning of the Gateway International Cargo Airport and the inauguration of two commercial aircraft aimed at boosting import and export activities.

He is also expected to inaugurate the new Federal Operations Unit of the Nigerian Customs Service and its operational vehicles during the visit.

President Tinubu will then return to Lagos to continue the Easter holiday and commission several infrastructure projects executed under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. These projects include the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a Multi-Agency Complex named after the President, and a new school complex.
