According to a report by Jerusalem Post, on October 1, 2025, a senior Hamas official indicated to the BBC on Wednesday that the terrorist organization will likely reject US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive 20-point peace plan designed to end the Gaza conflict and secure the release of 48 remaining hostages.
The official told the British public-service broadcaster that the proposal “serves Israel’s interests” and “ignores those of the Palestinian people.”
This assessment suggests significant obstacles remain in achieving a negotiated settlement to the ongoing conflict.
According to the BBC report, Hamas has raised several specific objections to Trump’s plan. The terrorist group refuses to disarm or surrender its weapons, a key condition outlined in the proposal.
Additionally, Hamas rejects the deployment of any “International Stabilization Force” within the Gaza Strip, another requirement included in the peace framework.
The organization also opposes releasing all remaining hostages simultaneously, which the BBC describes as surrendering their primary “bargaining chip” in negotiations.
The report contradicts an earlier CBS News story from Tuesday that cited sources claiming Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups were leaning toward accepting Trump’s proposal.
While Hamas has not issued an official response, the BBC noted that Palestinian officials confirmed the plan is under review by Hamas leadership both inside and outside Gaza.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad spokesman Mohammed al-Haj Musa told Ultra Palestine on Tuesday evening that Hamas plans to meet with other Palestinian groups to formulate a collective response.
Musa emphasized that the proposal “does not pertain to Hamas alone, but rather to the entire Palestinian people,” stressing the need for unified action among all factions.
