According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, March 29, 2026, Da Amakiri Tubo, Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, who holds the title of Dabaye Amakiri 1 and serves as the Amayanabo of The Source in Elem Kalabari, Torusarama Piri, has explained factors he believes are responsible for the country’s ongoing struggle against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
He stated that the current situation reflects deep-rooted weaknesses within the nation’s security system, stressing that the existing approach has not delivered the expected results in tackling insecurity across various regions.
He pointed out that the persistence of violent crimes indicates that the strategies being used have not been sufficiently effective or comprehensive.
According to him, the nature of the threats facing the country requires more than routine responses, as criminal networks have evolved in tactics and coordination.
He emphasized that without addressing underlying structural issues, the country will continue to face challenges in restoring stability.
Dokubo-Asari called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to initiate a broad and complete restructuring of the nation’s security framework.
He suggested that piecemeal reforms would not be enough to confront the scale of insecurity currently being experienced.
He stressed that only a deliberate and all-encompassing overhaul can reposition the security institutions to respond more effectively to emerging threats.
He also indicated that the security agencies must be strengthened in terms of coordination, intelligence gathering, and operational efficiency.
In his view, the absence of synergy among agencies has contributed to lapses that criminals exploit.
He maintained that a unified and properly managed system would enhance the ability of authorities to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violence and criminal activity.
Beyond institutional reforms, he highlighted the importance of leadership commitment in driving meaningful change within the security sector.
He noted that strong political will is necessary to implement difficult but necessary decisions that could reshape the country’s approach to combating insecurity.
He suggested that decisive leadership would send a clear signal of seriousness in addressing the situation.
On the political front, Dokubo-Asari addressed discussions surrounding the next general election, particularly the prospects of President Tinubu’s re-election.
He acknowledged that opposition figures, including key political actors, are preparing to challenge the president, reflecting the competitive nature of the political landscape ahead of the polls.
He said, My one vote and the votes of the people with me will be for the president. But for me, I wonder what sort of president somebody like Peter Obi wants to become….See More
