When I Was Fighting Tompolo, I Was A Traitor; When I Decided I’m Not Fighting, I’m A Traitor -Dokubo

In a video shared on his Facebook page, former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo addressed the criticisms he has faced over his past actions and recent decisions. He reflected on the way people have perceived him, stressing that he has been labeled a traitor regardless of the choices he has made in the region.

β€œWhen I was fighting Tompolo, I was a traitor; when I decided I’m not fighting, I’m a traitor,” Dokubo stated. He expressed frustration over being judged for taking different paths at different times, explaining that his decisions were always made with the broader interest of the Niger Delta people in mind. Dokubo noted that the perception of betrayal often ignores the complexities and challenges of conflict and peacebuilding in the region.
