El Rufai & Ribadul: I Was Their Victim, They Came Together, Locked Me Up, I Was In A Cell For Days-Ardo

Umar Ardo, Convener of the League of Northern Democrats, has recounted his past encounters with Nasir El-Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu, detailing how their former alliance negatively affected him.

In an interview with AIT News, Ardo explained that El-Rufai and Ribadu were once close collaborators while in positions of power. He revealed that he became a target after writing an article exposing certain actions involving both men.

Ardo stated that following the publication, officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), then headed by Ribadu, raided his home for several hours before taking him into custody. He described being detained for several days without any known legal offence and noted that he was among the earliest individuals apprehended by the commission, implying that his arrest was a result of the coordination and influence between El-Rufai and Ribadu.

After days in detention, Ardo was released on bail under self-recognition, with no further legal action taken against him. He added that although he initially pursued legal action against the EFCC and Ribadu for what he considered an unlawful detention, he was eventually pressured to withdraw the case.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Ardo said: “When they were in power, I was their victim. The relationship between Nuhu Ribadu and El-Rufai—they came together, they locked me up, and I was in a cell for many days.” His account highlights the personal impact of political alliances and the challenges faced by individuals who challenge powerful figures…..See More
