A Man Who Stole N7 Billion Meant For Weapons To Fight Terrorists, You Named Street After Him -Falana

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has disclosed that a street in his Lagos neighborhood was recently named after a former state governor, a decision he openly criticized.

Speaking during an interview on The Legacy Series, Falana alleged that the former governor had been accused of diverting nearly ₦7 billion originally allocated for the purchase of arms and ammunition to combat terrorism. He noted that although the individual was taken to court over the matter, the case was ultimately dismissed on technical grounds.

Falana argued that honoring such a person by naming a street after him sends the wrong signal, especially to young people who may begin to view such figures as role models. According to him, celebrating individuals with controversial histories weakens the moral fabric of society.

In his words, he questioned how someone accused of misusing funds meant for national security could be portrayed as a hero deserving of public recognition. He insisted that citizens have the right to resist and speak out against decisions that promote what he described as a distortion of societal values.
