According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reported targeting an Israeli F‑16 fighter jet over the country’s central region on Saturday, amid ongoing Middle East hostilities following February 28 airstrikes by Israel and the United States.
The Guards stated on their Sepah News website that “an F‑16 hostile enemy fighter jet belonging to the Zionist regime was struck at 3:45 a.m. in central Iran.” The incident marks the latest escalation in a conflict that has spread across multiple fronts in the region.
Earlier, the Israeli military confirmed that a surface-to-air missile had been launched at an Israeli aircraft during “an operational activity” in Iran, without specifying the jet type. Officials added that the aircraft sustained no damage. At this stage, it remains unclear whether Iranian and Israeli reports reference the same event.
Iranian media also published an image showing smoke in the sky, claiming another aircraft had been targeted. The outlets did not confirm the aircraft’s nationality or type. Independent verification of the image or the source of the smoke was not immediately possible.
This development follows previous Iranian claims of striking U.S. aircraft. Days earlier, the Revolutionary Guards reported that a U.S. F‑35 fighter jet “was hit and seriously damaged in the skies of central Iran.” CNN, citing two sources familiar with the matter, reported Thursday that a U.S. F‑35 had performed an emergency landing at a U.S. airbase in the Middle East following suspected Iranian fire.
As the situation escalates, tensions between the U.S., Israel, and Iran continue to intensify, with both sides claiming defensive and retaliatory measures…..See More
