Stop Faking Trump’s Statements About Nigeria Before You Bring His Anger Upon Us — Shehu Sani Warns

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has warned Nigerians who have been fabricating and circulating fake statements attributed to United States President Donald Trump about Nigeria to stop immediately, saying their actions risk diverting Trump’s anger and frustration toward the country unnecessarily.

Sani made the remarks in a post on his official X account, formerly known as Twitter, where he expressed concern that some individuals have been creating or exaggerating statements supposedly made by Trump regarding Nigeria. He argued that such behaviour could draw unwanted attention to the country and potentially make Nigeria a target of Trump’s frustration at a time when the American president is already facing significant resistance from across the world over his handling of the ongoing conflict with Iran.

In his words, Sani wrote, “Those who are faking Trump’s statement on Nigeria should desist from such acts in order not to divert his anger and frustration towards us. Don’t make us a scapegoat. Allow him to concentrate on other issues.”

The senator’s warning comes against the backdrop of a growing trend on Nigerian social media where fabricated or exaggerated quotes attributed to world leaders, particularly Trump, are circulated widely, often for political purposes or to generate online engagement. Sani suggested that this practice, while it may seem harmless to those involved, carries real risks because it could put Nigeria on Trump’s radar at a time when the American president is already frustrated by the refusal of multiple countries to support his military campaign.

Sani used his post to highlight the fact that Trump is facing unprecedented levels of resistance from countries around the world regarding his calls for international support in the war against Iran. He pointed out that several key allies of the United States, particularly in Europe, have openly declined to participate in military operations. Reports indicate that major powers including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany have all refused involvement, with leaders in those countries stressing that the conflict is not theirs to fight.

Beyond Europe, Sani noted that other global powers, including countries in Asia, have also shown reluctance to join the war effort despite the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy corridors. He said that many of the nations approached by Trump have not committed troops or naval forces, a pattern he suggested reflects a widespread lack of international support for the military campaign.

The senator further observed that even traditional allies of the United States appear cautious about getting involved. He said the growing refusal from different regions of the world highlights deep concerns about the risks of escalation, the economic consequences of a prolonged conflict, and the political fallout that governments fear they would face domestically if they committed forces to a war that many of their citizens do not support.

Sani argued that given this global reality, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be dragging Nigeria into the conversation by fabricating statements that link the country to Trump’s frustrations. He said attention should remain on the global reaction to the war itself rather than on manufactured controversies involving Nigeria. In his view, the situation clearly shows that many countries across the world are unwilling to align with Trump’s position, and creating distractions that involve Nigeria serves no meaningful purpose and could only cause harm.

The senator’s comments also reflect broader concerns about the spread of misinformation on Nigerian social media, where fabricated quotes and doctored images attributed to international leaders have become increasingly common. Critics have long warned that such content, when it spreads unchecked, can damage Nigeria’s international reputation and create diplomatic complications that the country does not need….See More
