Delta State Approves ₦34 Billion for Construction of Police Divisional Headquarters Across 25 LGAs

The Delta State Government has approved the sum of ₦34 billion for the construction of police divisional headquarters across the 25 local government areas (LGAs) of the state as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve law enforcement infrastructure.

The approval was reportedly granted during a state executive council meeting, where government officials discussed strategies aimed at enhancing the safety of residents and boosting the operational capacity of security agencies in Delta State.

According to state authorities, the project is designed to ensure that each of the 25 local government areas has a modern and well-equipped police divisional headquarters capable of supporting effective policing and rapid response to security threats.

Government officials explained that the initiative forms part of the administration’s broader commitment to improving security infrastructure, supporting law enforcement agencies, and maintaining peace and stability across the state.

The planned police headquarters are expected to include modern office facilities, operational units, accommodation for officers, communication equipment, and other essential infrastructure needed to improve policing activities.

Authorities say the project will also enhance the coordination of security operations, making it easier for the police to respond to crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, communal conflicts, and other security challenges.

Delta State, like many other parts of Nigeria, has faced security concerns in recent years, including incidents related to kidnapping, cultism, and armed robbery in some communities.

State officials believe that strengthening police infrastructure at the local government level will help improve community policing efforts and intelligence gathering, which are critical in preventing and tackling crime.

The government also emphasized that providing adequate facilities for security personnel will boost morale among officers and improve their ability to carry out their duties effectively.

Security experts have long argued that one of the major challenges facing law enforcement in Nigeria is the lack of adequate infrastructure and logistical support, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

By constructing divisional headquarters across the state, the Delta State Government hopes to bring security services closer to communities, enabling faster response to emergencies and strengthening the relationship between police officers and residents.

The project is also expected to create employment opportunities during the construction phase, particularly for local contractors, engineers, and laborers.

Residents and community leaders have welcomed the development, expressing hope that improved security infrastructure will lead to reduced crime rates and greater safety for businesses and families….See More
