According to a report by The Punch on Thursday March 12, 2025, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has directed the military to review and restructure its operational strategy in parts of the country following a series of attacks on military formations in the North-West and North-East.
Musa gave the directive after holding a strategy session with service chiefs in Abuja on Wednesday, where the security situation across various operational theatres was assessed. The meeting came in response to recent assaults on military bases that resulted in casualties among Nigerian troops.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the defence minister assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain determined to restore peace and strengthen security across the country.
“We had a quick, short meeting with members of the services to review our strategy in all our theatres within the country,” Musa said.
He acknowledged that the military had lost personnel during some of the recent clashes but maintained that terrorist and bandit groups had suffered heavier setbacks from ongoing operations.
“We are aware that we have suffered some casualties, but I can tell you the terrorists and bandits are taking more,” he stated, adding that security forces were eliminating key commanders and destroying insurgents’ assets.
The minister also warned against the spread of misinformation on social media, saying false reports could negatively affect the morale of troops involved in operations.
According to him, the fight against terrorism requires collective effort, urging Nigerians to support security agencies by providing useful information about suspicious activities.
Musa further stressed that individuals who assist criminal groups with logistics or intelligence would be treated as collaborators and face the same consequences as the perpetrators.
Recent coordinated attacks by insurgents on several military bases have reportedly claimed the lives of soldiers and commanding officers. In one incident in Katsina State, Captain Paul Hassan and two other soldiers were killed during an attack by terrorists.
The minister reiterated that despite the challenges, the military remains committed to defeating terrorists and restoring stability across the country…..See More
