Valentine Ozigbo, a Nigerian politician and former governorship candidate in Anambra State has expressed disappointment with the Labour Party, saying his experience within the party did not meet the expectations he initially had.
Ozigbo made the statement during an interview on SYMFONI TV while reflecting on his political journey and the search for a credible alternative platform in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to him, many Nigerians had looked to the Labour Party as a possible alternative to the country’s dominant political parties. However, he said his personal experience after joining the party made him rethink that belief.
“I was hoping that Labour Party was going to be the alternative,” Ozigbo said during the interview.
He explained that the internal challenges he encountered within the party were disappointing, particularly given the high expectations many supporters had for it as a reform-driven political platform.
“But what I now went through in Labour Party showed me that they were even worse than the parties we were criticizing,” he added.
The Labour Party gained national prominence during the 2023 presidential election when former Anambra State governor Peter Obi contested for the presidency on its platform. The campaign attracted widespread attention, particularly among young voters and urban residents who were seeking a shift from traditional political structures.
Despite the enthusiasm that surrounded the movement, the party has also faced internal disputes and leadership disagreements since the election.
Ozigbo’s comments add to ongoing debates about the need for stronger internal democracy, transparency, and accountability within Nigerian political parties….See More
