Mujahid Asari Dokubo, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, has commented on the factors he believes influenced the outcome of the 2023 presidential election and the current political climate ahead of future contests.
Dokubo, a former militant leader from the Ijaw ethnic group in the Niger Delta and President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (Ameer Muminin) for the South-East and South-South regions, made the remarks during a live video session on his official Facebook page on Friday, February 13, 2026.
During the broadcast, he stated, “What gave Ahmed Bola Tinubu victory in 2023 was the northern vote. Anybody who is trying to say that the northern vote are not important, southern governors are decamping to APC. They are not in control. They are not in control.”
He continued, “Let us make it perfectly clear. If election comes, they are not in control of their electorates, even if they are going to be forced. Even if they are going to be forced. And with what is happening now, will they have the courage to do what they used to do before?”
Dokubo further said he had engaged with religious leaders in the South-West regarding political support. “I’ve met several Muslim leaders from the southwest who supported President Tinubu. Nobody is telling President the truth. These people are not going to vote for the president. They are not going to mobilize their congregations for the president if something does not change,” he said.
He added, “They believe that more than 70% appointment of the southwest goes to Christians, and the Christians in the southwest were the most vehemently opposition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to become president. So they opposed, stood against him, and reaped the benefits.”
Dokubo stated that some leaders had directly questioned him about his support for the President. “I have met several Muslim leaders. I can even call their names. They even asked me, Mujahid, this your friend that you are talking about, do you think we will support him? He will not win. What has he done for you two that you are shouting his name up and down?” he said.
