Dr. Ugo Onumonu, the Head of Department of History and International Studies at Adeleke University in Osun State, has stated that based on his research and investigations, the Ikwerre people are Igbos.
In an interview on the State Affairs Show with Edmund Obilo, Onumonu stated that even the word “Ikwerre” is an Igbo word. He stated that the Ikwerre people have Igbo culture and a lot of them have Igbo names.
Onumonu said that it was only after the Nigerian civil war that some Ikwerre people began to rebrand and change their Igbo names
