Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the appearance of former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie at the ongoing electoral reform protest, where she was reportedly seen alongside Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Monday, February 9, 2026, Olayinka criticized Onochie’s participation in the protest movement popularly referred to as the “We No Go Gree” demonstrations, questioning her current political stance in light of her previous alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Olayinka recalled that during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Onochie served as a presidential aide and was later nominated as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) while still publicly associated with the ruling party. He noted that the nomination was eventually rejected by the National Assembly, adding that she did not withdraw from consideration until lawmakers declined to confirm her appointment.
According to him, her presence at the protest alongside opposition figures raises questions about what he described as shifting political positions among some former government officials.
The electoral reform protest, which has drawn civil society groups, political activists, and opposition figures, is focused largely on demands for stronger legal provisions for electronic transmission of election results and broader reforms aimed at improving electoral transparency.Read_M0re…
