Christian Genocide: Mixed Reactions As US Addresses Plot To Divide Nigeria, Gives Fresh Details

A United States lawmaker, Representative Riley Moore, has warned that promoting separatist movements in Nigeria could worsen insecurity and put Christians and other vulnerable communities at greater risk; The warning came after Moore’s recent fact-finding visit to the country.

During his visit, Moore met with Nigerian government officials, church leaders, aid organisations, and internally displaced persons to better understand the security challenges facing the North and Middle Belt regions; He said his discussions revealed that calls to divide the country were not a serious concern.

“Efforts to embolden separatists hurt Christians in Nigeria, especially in the North and Middle Belt,” Moore said in a social media post; He added that destabilising the country could empower terrorist groups and deepen insecurity across the region.

Moore’s comments have drawn mixed reactions online. Some Nigerians cautioned that framing the crisis as primarily religious could reinforce divisions; One user wrote, “In Nigeria, banditry and terrorism affect Christians, Muslims, and others alike. Inclusive advocacy strengthens unity.”

Others praised Moore’s stance on national unity; Alex Kabara said, “It’s good you acknowledged that discussions about dividing the country exist but are not serious; Ignoring the root issues could make these discussions louder over time.”

Chydymma also commended Moore, noting that “A divided Nigeria would only embolden terrorists and make vulnerable communities less safe; A united, secure Nigeria is essential for peace and regional stability.”

Critics, however, argued that foreign visits cannot fully capture the daily realities of insecurity faced by Nigerians; Everything Politics commented, “The problem is not social media talk about separatism, but the daily failure of the Nigerian state to protect lives.”
