Nigeria’s former Senator and public affairs commentator, Shehu Sani, has raised fresh concerns about the future of the United Nations, warning that the global body is drifting toward irrelevance due to financial and political neglect. In a post shared on his verified X account on February 2 , 2026 , Sani reacted strongly to the withdrawal of the United States from some UN agencies, describing the development as a serious blow to the organisation’s stability.

According to him, the exit of the US has created a major funding gap, forcing the UN to operate under severe constraints.
