The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, on Saturday arrived in grand style at the venue of a special reception organised in his honour by the Wakirike Ethnic Nationality in Ogu Town, Rivers State.
According to a media post by Honourable Lere Olayinka, Media Aide to the FCT Minister on Saturday, 31 January 2026, the canoe procession formed part of the traditional welcome accorded Wike by the Wakirike people, reflecting their rich cultural heritage and deep respect for the former Rivers State governor.
The FCT Minister was accompanied by his son as they made a ceremonial entrance to the venue in a canoe, drawing admiration from residents, traditional leaders and supporters who lined the waterways to welcome him with cheers, chants and cultural displays.
It was revealed that the colourful arrival marked the beginning of activities leading to Wike’s formal reception and his chieftaincy installation by the Wakirike Ethnic Nationality, in recognition of his dedication to the people, promotion of unity, and contributions to development within Rivers State.
The grand reception was organised to celebrate Wike’s enduring relationship with the Wakirike people and to honour his leadership and service to the region.
