A short video showing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stumbling slightly during an official event abroad recently went viral on social media. Many young Nigerians mocked the moment, turning it into jokes and criticism online. The incident quickly moved from a simple slip to a wider national discussion about how Nigerians view their leaders.
However, the Presidency later explained that the President only lost balance briefly and was not hurt. Officials said the stumble did not affect his duties, as he continued his meetings and official activities without any problem. Similar incidents involving world leaders have happened in the past and are often described as normal human moments.
Reacting to the online mockery, former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, shared his view on X. He wrote, “The problem is not about the President’s misstep; The problem is with the people who think a president should be a supernatural who should not, cannot or must not misstep.” His statement reminded Nigerians that leaders are human beings, not perfect figures.
