The immediate past Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State and former Member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, has, during an interview on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television Programme, insisted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara does not have the powers to declare his seat and other Local Government Chairmen vacant.

Dr. Chidi Lloyd had said, “First and foremost, with due respect to the Office of the Governor, I’d like to ask from where did the Governor obtain the powers to declare that heads of Local Government Administration should take over the leadership of the Local Government Councils; the Governor knows that he does not have any such powers. The 1999 Constitution, especially at Section 7 Sub (1) did not contemplate heads of Local Government.
