When My Friend Told Me They Have Killed Baba, I Cried Because I Was Getting To Know Him’ -Suspect
The Police Operatives in Ogun State have confirmed the arrest of two suspected kidnappers responsible for the Killing of a 71-year-old man who is a father of five in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State. One of the arrested suspect identified as Monday Igwe has stated how he wept after learning about the murder of the 71 year old man. He stated that he had just begun to form a personal connection with the elderly man before he was killed.
He noted that he insisted on viewing the body and advocated for a proper burial. Despite his emotional turmoil, he was eventually given 150,000 Naira by the gang leader. Although he maintained that he’s unaware of the total ransom extracted from Baba’s family. He also revealed that he was lured into the criminal activities by a friend who misled him about the nature of the work. He expressed regret and stated that he would never have joined had he known the violent nature of their operations.
He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”When I came to Ijebu Igbo, I decided to come and do farm work. It was my friend who led me into this kidnapping work. He didn’t tell me that it was kidnapping job that he was doing. He only told me this farm work that I’m doing is not profitable. He told me we are going for a robbery operation and I decided to go with him. When I saw how they killed one young man that they kidnapped, I was shocked and I told my friend that I didn’t know they used to kill people like this. If I had knew, I wouldn’t have joined them.

Speaking about the killing of the 71 years old man, he said, ”When my friend told me they have killed Baba, I cried because I was just getting to know him. I met with the gang leader and I told him I wanted to see his dead body. I told them that they should let us at least bury him properly.
