We Have The Capacity To Cause Whatever Violence They Want, But We’ll Not Do That — Chidi Lloyd

In a video posted by Channels Television, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State, addressed the ongoing tensions in the state. While acknowledging the capacity to respond to violence with equal force, Lloyd emphasised the importance of restraint, stating that “we cannot be seen to be maiming the same people we are leading.”

He drew a comparison to the situation in Zamfara State, where a similar political development unfolded without resorting to violence. Lloyd urged the people of the state to remain calm, pointing out that they would wait for the decision of the Court of Appeal.

According to him, “All of you know us here; we are the chairman of the council, and we have the capacity to cause whatever violence they want, but we’ll not do that. The reason we’ll not do that is because we cannot be seen to be maiming the same people we are leading. What is going on in Rivers State, what the Rivers State House of Assembly did, has been done in Zamfara without anybody throwing any stones, because that is the way to go in the event that the government is not able to provide the enabling environment for elections to hold….See More
