Stay Away From FCT On August 1, Wike Warns Nationwide Protesters Give Reasons
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has firmly addressed the organizers of the “End Bad Governance Protest” scheduled for August 1, citing the ongoing economic difficulties. According to This Day, he announced after an emergency FCT Security Council meeting that the nation’s capital would not accommodate the protest. This meeting included the FCT Minister of State, Area Council Chairmen, the FCT Management team, and security agency heads within the FCT, as they prepared for the anticipated nationwide protests.
Wike acknowledged the citizens’ right to protest but emphasized that he would not permit actions that could regress the capital’s progress. He highlighted that the planned protest date coincides with a significant event to honor FCT Traditional Rulers and distribute certificates to them.
“Mr. President has provided substantial support to the FCT, leading to numerous improvements. We aim to advance the FCT as a prominent city in Africa and globally. We will not allow disruptions that could impede our progress,” Wike stated. He reiterated that while citizens’ rights to protest are recognized, they must be exercised within legal boundaries.
Wike urged Nigerians to unite in addressing the nation’s challenges. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by citizens but assured that the President and his team are diligently working to resolve these issues. He called for patience, highlighting visible changes in the FCT as evidence of the government’s efforts.
The minister cautioned protesters against disrupting the planned celebration for FCT Traditional Rulers. He stressed that the designated protest day is reserved for recognizing and honoring traditional rulers across the six Area Councils of the FCT. Wike invited the public to join in this celebration, noting it as part of the administration’s achievements.
In his warning, Wike made it clear that the FCT would not be available for protests on that day. He issued this statement shortly after urging Saburi residents in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) not to join the protest during a road project inspection tour……See_More
